Have You Ever Danced in the Rain?

Casey: (on-air) And that will do it for this edition of Sports Night. Tomorrow night we'll do this again, only the scores will be different. Have a good evening.

Dave: We're out.

Will: Credits rolling.

Chris: Music's a go.

Dana: Good show, everybody.

Everybody starts to leave the control room. Jeremy stops Dana.

Jeremy: Dana, I'm sorry about tonight.

Dana: It's all right, Jeremy.

Jeremy: I should have done a much better job cutting the NHL previews.

Dana: Dan and Casey did a nice job covering it. Don't worry about it.

Jeremy: I mean, I get paid to do this job. It's not like they've brought in a stranger from the street and told him to make a two-minute hockey preview.

Dana: Jeremy?

Jeremy: Yeah?

Dana: Would you feel better if I told you everybody makes mistakes?

Jeremy: No.

Dana: Would you feel better if I yelled at you?

Jeremy: Not really.

Dana: Jeremy, go home. Go to bed and sleep well.

Jeremy: Dana-

Dana: Jeremy, please do so.

Jeremy: Okay. I'll try.

Dana: Good.

As everybody leaves the control room. Dana grabs Natalie.

Dana: What's Jeremy's problem?

Natalie: What am I? His girlfriend?

Natalie and Dana walk into the newsroom.

Dana: Natalie, you're closer to him than anyone else.

Natalie: He's been having a really bad day. Plus, he thinks he's going to be laid-off.

Dana: Who told him that?

Natalie: The rumors.

Dana: There's rumors going around saying Jeremy is going to be let go?

Natalie: No. Jeremy thinks he's going to be let go because of the rumors of layoffs.

Dana: There's nothing remotely true about those rumors, but I do need him to do a better job.

Natalie: I'll talk with him.

Dana: Thank you. Also, I may have Sam stop training him.

Natalie: Is it too much of a workload?

Dana: No, I fear Sam turning Jeremy into his clone.

Natalie: Funny.

Dan and Casey walk by Dana and Natalie.

Dan: Casey, how about you and me going to shoot some hoops this weekend?

Casey: I can't. I promised Charlie we would go camping this weekend.

Jeremy walks by the two.

Jeremy: See you guys later.

Dan: Later, Jeremy.

Casey: Good night.

Dan and Casey re-focus on their conversation.

Dan: Casey McCall in the wilderness?

Casey: Yeah.

Dan: You going up-state or out-of-state?

Casey: Actually, we're going to a park.

Dan: That's not the wilderness.

Casey: Hey, there can be some vicious raccoons going through those garbage cans.

Dan: Uh-huh.

Casey: We've got the tent, sleeping bags, a hibachi, and a first-aid kit.

Dan: Well, I guess you two should have some fun.

Dan and Casey walk into their office.

Casey: We can shoot some hoops sometime next week.

Dan: I'm going to hold you to that.

Casey: Sure. Just be ready to lose once again.

Dan: I've beaten you the last three times.

Dan and Casey grabs their coats from the coat rack.

Casey: My plan is working.

Dan: What plan?

Casey: I'm going to lull you to sleep with overconfidence, then cha-ching! You will be schooled by the master.

Dan: Uh-huh.

The two leave their office.

Half of the staff has already left the floor, while the remaining people are all in the newsroom.

Dana: Has anybody seen Isaac?

Sam: He went home.

Dana: Well, good to see you once again Sam. I'm sorry you missed our show tonight. I guess we won't be seeing you for another-

Sam: Ten hours.

Dan: Maybe more if we all sleep in.

Dana: Why doesn't anybody tell me anything any more?

Sam: I saw Isaac leaving the building. He told me to wish everybody a good night.

Dana: How did the meetings go?

Sam: He looked extremely tired, but he didn't have anything negative to say about them.

A distraught Jeremy comes storming back into the newsroom.

Casey: What's wrong, Jeremy?

Jeremy: I locked my keys in my car. Now I can neither get into my car, nor my apartment.

Casey: I've got a coat hanger. I can unlock the door.

Dan: Going camping and knowledge of how to break into vehicles- Casey, I don't even know you.

Natalie: I can take you home, Jeremy.

Casey: Come on, Jeremy. Give me a chance to giggle the lock.

Jeremy: Casey, no. Natalie? You still have a key to my place?

Natalie: Of course.

Everybody turns and looks at Sam.

Sam: Well, go ahead. Don't stop on my behalf.

Natalie turns back toward Jeremy.

Natalie: I forgot to give it back to you after we broke up.

Natalie pulls the key from her key ring and hands the key back to Jeremy.

Jeremy: Thank you. My second spare car key is at my place.

Natalie: Come on. Let's go.

Natalie and Jeremy start to leave the newsroom.

Casey: Could somebody give me a ride home? I'd hate to walk home in the rain.

Dana: Dan, would you do the honor?

Dan: Sure. Come on, Casey. I'd hate for you to melt in the rain.

Everybody continues to leave the newsroom.

Dan: You know what Casey? The weather reports are predicting rain all the way through the weekend. You may need to bring galoshes on your camping trip.

Casey: Gee whiz. Thanks for reminding me.

-----

Natalie and Jeremy walk up to his apartment door.

Jeremy: Thanks again for bringing me home.

Natalie: Not a problem.

Jeremy: I'd invite you in for a drink, but all I have is juice and water.

Natalie: Water is fine.

Jeremy: It's not bottled water. It's straight from the tap.

Natalie: That's fine.

Jeremy puts the key in and unlocks the door.

Jeremy: Natalie?

Natalie: Yeah?

Jeremy: Nothing. Never mind.

Jeremy opens the door and the two walk inside.

Jeremy flips on a light switch, and the light shows a very messy apartment.

Natalie: Jeremy, is everything all right?

Jeremy: I'm sorry I haven't had time to clean recently.

Natalie: I'm surprised because you usually have everything all tidy and organized.

Jeremy: I'm sorry about the appearance. I'll get you a glass of water.

Jeremy goes off to his kitchen and Natalie takes off her coat. She moves some wrinkled clothes from his couch and then sits down. Jeremy walks back in and hands Natalie the nearly-full glass of water. She grasps it with both hands.

Natalie: Thanks.

Jeremy: You're welcome.

Jeremy takes his jacket off and hangs it up in the coat closet. He then starts to clean things up in his living room.

Natalie: You don't need to do that.

Jeremy: No, I have to clean this place up.

Natalie sets the glass on an end table, gets up, and walks over to Jeremy. She physically stops him from picking things up.

Natalie: Talk to me, Jeremy.

Jeremy: It's nothing.

Natalie: I'm not leaving until you tell me what is going on.

Jeremy: Natalie-

Natalie: Not budging at all.

Natalie rubs his chest.

Natalie: Jeremy, it's me, Natalie. You can tell me anything.

Jeremy pulls away.

Jeremy: Natalie. Don't do that.

Natalie: What?

Jeremy: Don't touch me like that.

Natalie: Why?

Jeremy: Because we are not dating anymore. It's difficult to be with you when we are only just friends.

Natalie: Maybe I should be going.

Jeremy: I'm sorry.

Natalie grabs her jacket from the couch and puts it on. She walks over to Jeremy and grabs his fingertips. She reaches up and gives him a kiss on the cheek.

Natalie pulls away and the two look directly at each other. Jeremy pulls Natalie closer and they kiss once again- only this time, they wrap their arms around each other.

Natalie finally breaks the kiss. She starts walking across the room.

Jeremy: Where are you going?

Natalie takes off her jacket and tosses it on the floor. She motions with her finger for Jeremy to follow her. She holds out her hand as Jeremy walks toward her. Jeremy takes hold of her hand as they walk out of the living room and into Jeremy's bedroom.

The bedroom door closes shut.
